Summer Research Opportunities Program
Welcome to the website of the Wake Forest University Graduate School's summer research program. We invite rising undergraduate junior and senior science majors with an interest in pursuing biological, biomedical and physical sciences research careers to join us. Over the past 17 years we have had many talented undergraduates from colleges and universities across the country participate in this program. For eight weeks each summer our program provides students an opportunity to work with outstanding faculty at a major research university which has been ranked as one of the top thirty national universities by U.S. News and World Report.
Participants in the summer program will be able to develop a research project, work with a faculty mentor, perform research in a laboratory with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, participate in a journal club, attend a professional development seminar, and present their work at a poster symposium. Participants also receive a stipend of approx. $3,000 to $3,500 (depending on funding source), free housing, and free transportation to and from the worksite. As a direct result of their summer experience, participants have developed and refined their interest in pursuing biomedical research, obtained valuable experience which could then be used for applications to graduate school, and have had the opportunity to work with other talented undergraduates.

Here are just a few comments our participants have shared with us: | |
| My advisor was amazing. I was very involved in my summer research project and had responsibilities for the research. My advisor was extremely helpful and has been an outstanding teacher and mentor. | ||
| Very informative sessions, the journal club was very interesting, and being left alone for maturity purposes and growth. | ||
| I have studied many of the techniques that I was using this summer (western blots and gel electrophoresis particularly) but before this summer, I never had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the techniques. | ||
